Luna Park Dream Circus is a 360-degree multi-sensory theatrical production, which runs multiple times a day at Luna Park in Sydney. It consists of multiple projection surfaces and types, projecting on the walls, curtains and scrims as well as three LED screens.
I was given multiple scenes to bring from concept to delivery, using a mixture of Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D and After Effects.
For the Roller Coaster animation, knowing it would be a long sequence requiring a detailed environment I decided to render it in Unreal Engine. I modelled and animated the main track and cart in Cinema 4D so that I could bring in the 3D data to After Effects to comp in the footage of the performance. I also built other assets to import as well as using some from the marketplace.
The majority of scenes are built out of loops rendered from Cinema 4D with Redshift and comped in After Effects. I often rendered out light passes so that I could add extra layer of light animation in After Effects. This also allowed me to stay nimble as I could do timing adjustments inside After Effects and avoid re-rendering heavy 3D scenes.
